I am Alis Pelleschi, a visual artist and photographer currently living and working in London. My practice focuses primarily on self-portaits, utilising makeup, hair, wardrobe and set design to transform myself into a variety of characters and personalities. I take inspiration for my subjects from a variety of sources, combining observational and self study with pop culture archetypes and a sense of the uncanny. My work aims to explore how our outward appearances are informed by notions of persona, and how this plays out in both the celebrity and ‘real’ world - with a particular interest in the crossover between the two. I also attempt to explore traits we perceive as being ‘unique’ and those we consider ‘ordinary’, especially with reference to ideas of beauty. I have exhibited at Unseen Amsterdam and The Photographers Gallery (Fresh Faced and Wild Eyed Finalist, 2011), and had my work featured within the following publications: The British Journal of Photography, Bullet, Vice, WAD, i-D, Dazed and Confused and Sang Bleu.
