I started off as an art director, and spent a good 10 years doing that. It won me quite a few awards and a solid carrer in Brazil. But I had always wanted to be a writer, and in 2003 I decided it was about time I gave it a go. As a copywriter, I went on to win the same awards I did as an art director. This includes Cannes lions and gold medals at the Brazilian Creative Annual. Over my 18 year period in São Paulo I worked for DPZ, AlmapBBO and Lew’Lara\TBWA. Then, after what turned out to be a rather brief and happy stint at DM9DDB, a phone call with the idea of moving to London to head up the creative department at TBWA was just too good to resist. My writing itch is strong. While working in advertsing, I used whatever freetime I had to write some more. I published a novel in 2005, various short stories in newspapers and magazines, wrote TV series that aired between 2000 and 2004 and was a regular columnist for Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo for 9 years. This was all before I had kids, of course. Now the only bits of freetime I have are barely enough for a nap. I am married with two children. And own a cat. I am also a lousy goalie — which is the fate of all Brazilians who suck at football. As an art director, copywriter or ECD I've won: 24 Cannes Lions 1 D&AD Pencil 3 One Show Pencils 5 Golds Creative Circle UK 1 Grand Prix Creative Circle UK 1 Grand Prix Premio Abril Over 80 Brazilian Creative Annual awards
Writes a biweekly column for O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper since 2004
