From the small seaside town of Whiltey Bay, UK, studying Graphic Design at Northumbria Univeristy. I pride myself on my drawing ability and creative thinking. I am confident in using the Adobe Creative Suite but prefer to use my hands to create something truly unique wherever possible. I love live music and am learning to play the guitar. I also run a small business selling papercut artwork which can be found at astronomypapercuts.etsy.com
After completing a short placement I was offered a temporary role within an experienced design agency near Newcastle Upon Tyne. I was able to help with current projects and answer briefs myself using the skills and knowledge I have gained through my degree and personal development. This was a great opportunity and provided me with an insight into how a working studio operates on a day to day basis. Unfortunately the studio were not receiving enough work to allow for an extra member of staff at this time.
For two years I took this voluntary role editing and creating content for a newsletter for members of the Down's Syndrome North East Association.
Whilst at College and University I worked part-time in a busy coffee shop and baker's shop in the heart of the sea-side town of Tynemouth. Whilst at this role I worked my way up from waiter to being a key-holder and being left in charge when the Shop manager was away or unable to work. My responsibilities including opening/closing the shop, cashing up and organising wages and stock payments, serving customers and organising staff roles. Whilst this was not a design role I was able to apply my creative skills to the shop space including hand-written signage within and outside the shop, editing menu content, shop decoration and layout and I worked as part of a team who all worked together to create a very professional but friendly environment within the very popular shop. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this job and gained a lot of confidence working within and leading a team and interacting with members of the public. I left this job due to the business being sold after the owner's retirement.
Throughout this year long course I was able to taste fashion design, ceramic and pottery design, photography, fine art and architecture before specialising in Graphic Design. This was always the intention but being able to experience these other areas has shaped the way I design and given me more skills than I would have had otherwise. I completed the course with a distinction grade foundation degree.
After a general graphic design course content in the first year of my degree I specialised on the branding pathway and learnt and developed many skills giving my the portfolio I have today. I have worked on many branding projects but also used my skills to create publications, packaging design, website and user interface design, typography and image making design and love to work through drawings, sketches and scamps before using digital software to bring my ideas to life.
Graduated from Northumbria University in July 2015 with a 2.1 in Graphic Design
