About me
From the small seaside town of Whiltey Bay, UK, studying Graphic Design at Northumbria Univeristy. I pride myself on my drawing ability and creative thinking. I am confident in using the Adobe Creative Suite but prefer to use my hands to create something truly unique wherever possible. I love live music and am learning to play the guitar. I also run a small business selling papercut artwork which can be found at astronomypapercuts.etsy.com

  • Goldman's Curious Catsup
Goldman's Curious CatsupThis rather odd brief asked for a new line of Cat's condiments. As part of a paired group we created Goldman's Curious Catsup, a brand of sauces designed to be added to dried cat food bringing flavour and excitement to every meal. We identified three key flavours in dried cat food and based the sauces on these. Beef, Chicken and Fish being the main ingredients in Cat foods meant that we had three distinctive flavours requiring artwork for each. Our 1920's inspired style called upon bold typograph
  • Pantone Presents: The Colour of Music
Pantone Presents: The Colour of Music2014 saw 50 years of the Panone Matching System. As a celebration, this brief asked for a publication that used colour in an exciting way and I chose to celebrate using songs about colour chosen from each decade of the PMS. I created illustrations in the style of a Victorian puppet theatre with paper parts created by hand. These showed the lyrics from each chosen track with the colour word replaced with the suiteable pantone swatch. The book took influence from 12 inch vinyl records with its own paper sleeve and a sticker placed on the front in the same way as a vinyl disc.
  • D&AD New Blood: John Lewis Home Delivery
D&AD New Blood: John Lewis Home DeliveryFor my submission to D&AD New Blood's brief from John Lewis I foucussed on a design that was approachable, knowledgeable and reliable. After identifying a gap between the online consumer and the brand I set out to bridge that gap and represent the store’s ethos and communication style without the customer having to physically visit a shop. The level of friendliness, and knowledge the staff in store talk with was especially important to represent within my design. Through the use of language and a fresh and vibrant colour palette I aimed to engage and excite the user. Through the use of informational, informal language an emotional bond is built. Tech savvy users can interact online, after receiving their order, through the hashtag #JohnLewisDelivers. The simple box nets reduce waste and are made using a one colour print on each side of the board reducing production processes and costs. The reinforced base and tamper evident seal, through the positioning of the label, keeps each order secure and tissue paper inserts add extra protection for orders that require this. Every box and envelope, including inner packaging and printed receipts/invoices are completely recyclable at curbside.

Work history
    Junior Designer
After completing a short placement I was offered a temporary role within an experienced design agency near Newcastle Upon Tyne. I was able to help with current projects and answer briefs myself using the skills and knowledge I have gained through my degree and personal development. This was a great opportunity and provided me with an insight into how a working studio operates on a day to day basis. Unfortunately the studio were not receiving enough work to allow for an extra member of staff at this time.

Education
Foundation Degree in Art and Design
     -
Throughout this year long course I was able to taste fashion design, ceramic and pottery design, photography, fine art and architecture before specialising in Graphic Design. This was always the intention but being able to experience these other areas has shaped the way I design and given me more skills than I would have had otherwise. I completed the course with a distinction grade foundation degree.
    BA(Hons) Graphic Design
     -
After a general graphic design course content in the first year of my degree I specialised on the branding pathway and learnt and developed many skills giving my the portfolio I have today. I have worked on many branding projects but also used my skills to create publications, packaging design, website and user interface design, typography and image making design and love to work through drawings, sketches and scamps before using digital software to bring my ideas to life.
