I worked for three years with internationally renowned photographer Robert Lyons in Seattle USA. My main responsibilities were to assist on photographic shoots, liaising with clients, coordinating exhibitions, coordinating and running thr film darkroom as well as printing exhibition prints, catalogue and archive images. I also assisted with the layout of his last book Another Africa. As well as an amazing photographer, he was a collector of vintage prints and African antiquities, it was also my role to catalogue and archive all the pieces and ensure they were handled correctly and stored in an acid-free enviroment. I also helped run a studio in North London where we photographed everything from complicated set builds, portraits, table top and cut-out images. We took on a wide variety of commissions such as books about chef’s knifes, catalogues for dental equipment, high fashion baby changing bags, watches, Guinness, Stella Artois, all sorts of food. Running a studio and working across such a diverse range of briefs requires the ability to be a good communicator, keen purchasing skills and budget management as well as a flexible approach. As well as working closely with clients to ensure the images provided fulfil the brief so everyone is happy with the final results and kepping to the desired deadline. I am also a freelance photographer working in London over the last 18 years : photographing a whole range of criteria; from portraits, travel, architectural and product shots. Working for a variety of corporate clients and magazines should you be interested in some of my portraits please look at: www.firthphoto.co.uk I work on personal projects, the latest can be seen on my website, it is called "Skin Deep" This project looks at women with Tattoos, the images give a personal insight and try to convey their stories, Each piece of work begins with an environmental image. The choice of where the photographs were taken was down to each person, this hopefully depicts a little bit about who they are and their influences/interests. The second image is of (some of) the actual tattoos / 'ink' – representing their individual 'pieces', style, colour and so on. Finally a portrait - for me these show the individual strength of each of the women who allowed me some insight into this aspect of them.
