Andrew Lancaster Biography
Andrew Lancaster is a multiple award winning Australian director and composer based in London, UK. His unique directing style combines cinematic vision, natural performances with a strong emphasis on music, sound, choreography and rhythm.
In Australia, Andrew is currently represented by commercial production company Photoplay Films. In 2012 he directed a TVC documentary campaign for the Transport Accident Commission on The Town of Speed and has won Gold at Spikes Asia, Gold at World Festival Media, 2 x Silver CLIOs, a Silver LIA, 2 x Gold Grand Prix at ADMA, and Gold at New York Festival Awards.
His debut feature film, Accidents Happen (starring Geena Davis) premiered at Tribecca Film Festival 2009 and has won two prestigious festival awards. His second produced in association with Porchlight Films and Photoplay Films, is about his great uncle, The Lost Aviator, a feature documentary which premiered in October 2014 at the BFI 58th London Film Festival. The film recently had US premiere at Miami International Film Festival and will be distributed theatrically in Australia with Transmission Films mid 2015.
In 2010 he founded Sonar a boutique music production company, which most notably composed soundtracks for Animal Kingdom and The Rover as well as multiple television series and TVC’s around the world. Andrew recently won the prestigious AACTA award for Best Original Music for The Hunter.
Andrew graduated with a BA in Film & TV from AFTRS (Australian Film & Television School) in 1994 where he directed and composed the short films Palace Cafe and Universal Appliance Co. which have screened at over 65 festivals including Cannes, Clermont Ferrand, Toronto, Berlin, Sydney, London, New York, Spain; and between them have won fifteen prestigious awards world wide.
In 2001 his short film In Search of Mike was invited to have its World Premier at Sundance, also picking up the Dendy Award and the prestigious Rouben Mamoulian Award at the Sydney Film Festival. In 2002 he was awarded the Best Rising Talent at the IF Awards. Andrew has directed over 35 music videos for successful Australian bands including Jagwar Ma, The Rubens, Custard, Midnight Oil, You Am I, and has won two ARIA awards for Best Australian Music Video in 1996 and 1999.
