About me
Anna Blom is an award-winning Finnish Graphic Designer and Media Artist. She is currently working on a multidisciplinary Arts Residency project – Temporary Autonomous Architecture – which combines art, activism, design and architecture with a particular focus on political activism, collective & cultural production of space and other ways of dwelling such as autonomous communities. Temporary Autonomous Architecture ‘T.A.A.’ consists of a collective of artists, designers, architects, researchers, creatives and activists. She was recently short-listed with a Honorary Prize for LONDON FESTIVAL OF ARCHITECTURE, June 2020, with her ’Sitting Pretty’ competition entry with Genie Niu and Hanna Vaskivuo of the ‘T.A.A.’ Collective. Anna graduated with First-Class Honours (BA, Interior Architecture and Design) from The CASS School of Art, Architecture and Design in 2019, where she proposed to collaborate with squatters and adopt their ‘open-space-tactics’ and ‘temporary autonomous zone’ ideologies in creating a space and an exhibition in Cecil Sharp House, Camden, where a residency collective would both design, build, inhabit and curate the temporary intervention exhibiting architecture through an ordinary daily life, including moments of sleep, meet, eat, wash and work. In her work she combines her graphics with architecture and design, layering simple graphic devices with an ad-hoc style design, many times utilising simple modular concepts found all around us in everyday situations, such as repurposed billboards, scaffolding or plastic pallets combined with cross-stitched or duct taped way-finding, since design is as much of a socio-political statement for her as it is a means to utilise what is already around us and finding beauty through minimal impact. Anna has worked as a Graphic Designer/Media Artist since 1998 both as an Art Director and later as a partner and co-founder of Design MOTOR, a multi-disciplinary design studio in Helsinki, Finland, after graduating as a Graphic Designer (Bachelor of Culture and Arts) in 1998 and MA studies in Graphic Design and Media Art in 2005, AALTO University School of Art, Design and Architecture. She is most interested in working within small self-organised groups sourcing out specific outcomes that solve –or highlight– an issue through interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement.
