Hello! I'm a freelance designer/illustrator currently looking work. I have tons of experience especially in print. I am currently freelancing at Harper Collins in their children's department and Rhubarb Food Design as their marketing designer. Some of my recent projects at Harper are a Narnia colouring book where I've used existing artwork to make patterns and designed and laid out the entire book within a tight time frame. I've also designed the new Cecelia Ahern children's cover. At Rhubarb I've been working on a series of high profile event, involved in pitch work, styling and marketing. Previous to that I was freelancing in the adult fiction and non-ficiton departments. I have worked as a full time designer in the Simon and Schuster and Hodder and Stoughton, adult art departments and at Hallmark as a greeting card designer. Designing creative marketing materials, pitch work, branding, brochures, menus, greeting cards, website illustrations and packaging and new business development. Working to multiple deadlines and ensuring work is print ready.
Harper Collins Publishers (February 2015 - present) Adult fiction, adult non-fiction cover design, art directing photo-shoots and art-working. Children’s cover design, internals and author branding. Working closely with type, layout, illustration, pattern and colour.
Fiction/Non Fiction designer, responsible for picture research/clearance, commissioning photographers and illustrators, organising and art directing photo-shoots in a fast paced team with a demanding schedule. Concept and design of original covers for books, often ensuring the author brand style is consistent. Designing a variety of marketing material for the titles I am responsible for. Working closely with editorial, marketing, sales and production on a variety of briefs and art directing freelance designers. Ensuring jobs are ready for production and all assets are correctly filed.
Designing and often illustrating my own print and digital titles. Taking them from initial ideas, through to production, ensuring they are art-worked and print ready. Constantly consulting with authors, editors, sales, marketing and production. Working on multiple briefs at one time, prioritising 6 months of titles, ensuring critical path deadlines are met. Also managing freelance work lists. Liaising with external agencies and commissioning photographers and illustrators when necessary.
Responsible for designing commercial greeting cards targeted at a variety of customers such as Hallmark, Asda, Morrisons and Next, ensuring designs are appropriate to the different consumers. Working on both strict and open briefs, taking into consideration, budgets, target market, trends and pushing process boundaries. Creating live work, concepting with effective use of type, imagery, layout and process. Adapting and refreshing existing styles using internal and external reference. Integral in researching and formulating S/S 2010 trends. Often consulting trend-forecasting sites such as WGSN and stylus. The trends were very well received and were used as a guide and inspiration throughout the entire company. Assisting with styling on photo shoots. Communicating with the Far East when sourcing new components and developing manufacturing processes
