Having recently graduated from Camberwell College of Arts, studying Illustration, I have been producing my own publications, which explore the relationship between new and old folk customs and traditions in Britain. The publications which consisted of photography and found imagery, involved me working on all aspects of the creation of a book; designing layouts, creating content, and successfully widening my knowledge of the Adobe suite, particularly Photoshop and InDesign. This work led to a larger ongoing project, which I’ll be working on with a group of filmmakers and photographers, exploring folk events around the UK. To further my understanding of working in a professional creative environment I undertook an internship at Hato Press, to coincide with my third year at Camberwell. Through this I was able to get an insight into a creative industry whilst studying and equally focusing on my own work. Most interestingly for me at Hato, was working with artists and designers who's practice differ substantially from my own. This gave me a richer understanding of the creative process on a commercial level, which helped develop my knowledge of both print processes and the production of publications. I’ve always had an interest in fashion publications particularly i-D and Dazed and Confused. Both of which, in addition to others, have definitely been influential in my interest in contemporary art and fashion culture. Helping my understanding of trends and expanding my knowledge of the industry. While producing work for print, research and documentation has become a key part of my practice, assembling and making relationships between imagery, sourcing my own references whether that be exploring archives or photographing events. These are skills I believe would be beneficial in a research or creative direction role. Ultimately I would like to undertake a career in art direction and would love the opportunity to work and learn from a studio such as yours. Thank you for your time.
