- Paper MountainsThis project came about off the back of a job I shot with set designer Hattie Newman early 2015. Hattie regularly gets commissioned to create elaborate, detailed paper scenes of cities or landscapes (or both) for photoshoots and commercials; while we were working on the particular job we were discussing how some of the elements of the set, particularly the elements of a mountain range would make a great project in their own right. - Table TennisEarlier this summer I had 1500 table tennis balls shipped to my studio. I was interested in how, en masse, they might behave in a similar way to liquids in motion so I set about making photographs showing hundreds of balls a moment they were thrown or dropped from height. The images were achieved with "in-camera" with an absolutely minimal amount of retouching. Using a high speed photographic technique the split-second moment where the balls are mid-air is frozen. The balls appear suspended in clusters, perhaps appearing like bubbles rising from subterranean depths, or perhaps suggesting biological forms. None of the shots show all 1500 balls being throw at once, generally around 500
