About me
My name is Caley Dewhurst and I’m a graphic designer with four years’ experience spanning print, digital and web. In 2016 I graduated with distinction from the Postgraduate Certificate in Design for Visual Communication at LCC. Since then I have taken on various freelance projects through my company and am now seeking fresh challenges and opportunities to learn more skills.
Projects
  • Vegetable Growing Calendar
Vegetable Growing CalendarFor this project I produced a growing calendar for Great British root vegetables. My aim was to create a visually engaging piece of information design to encourage people to grow more vegetables.
  • Brutal #1
Brutal #11st in a series of limited edition screenprints studying landmarks of brutalist architecture. This piece takes inspiration from the hard lines of the METU University Sports Hall. 4 layer screen print with heat transferred metallic details on 220gsm A2 art paper.
  • Visual Summary
Visual SummaryThis is an A4 editorial piece documenting my research and development throughout the first two terms of my Post-Graduate Certificate in Design for Visual Communication at LCC. The cover is printed on Risograph and the inner pages are printed digitally on Munken Polar Crisp White 120g. The publication was hand bound by me at LCC using saddle stitch.

Work history
    Creative Director
    London, United KingdomFreelance
Director and owner of a freelance graphic design company I set up early this year. Through my company I have worked on print, digital and experiential design with many brands including: Just Eat, Cobra Beer, Centrica and State Street. A highlight of this time has been working on the Tech London Advocates ‘Investor Showcase’ project whilst contracting at Seven Hills Ltd. I worked closely with a team of campaign executives to manage production of the design assets for the event, producing a 50pp A5 publication, 8pp A5 gatefold and 30 slide Keynote presentation ahead of schedule.
    Graphic Designer
     - London, United KingdomFreelance
Worked as a freelance graphic designer for companies and organisations including Southwark Council, Actionaid and Hearing Direct. Much of this time was spent with one client – MTPS Catering and Bar Supplies – for whom I worked on a comprehensive new visual identity, print and digital assets, packaging design for a range of chemical products and the design and project management of a 250pp A4 product catalogue for which I also sourced all the content from over one hundred manufacturers.

During the course we studied the fundamental principles of graphic design, including: Type Hierarchy, Visual Grammar, Colour Theory, Information Design and Typographic Layout. Throughout the projects I was also able to study and use many different media and techniques , these included: silkscreen printing, book-binding (‘Japanese’, ‘coptic’ and ‘perfect’), letterpress, darkroom photography, stop-frame animation, lithography, GIFs, interactive PDFs, embossing and laser cutting.
    BA(Hons) Philosophy

Learning to think critically and ask questions with an open mind has been invaluable when approaching design problems, allowing me to think much more clearly under pressure.
