Cathrine Disney is a recent graduate from BA (hons) Textiles and Surface Design at Bucks New University. She is a conceptual designer, captivated by the extent to which Biological Engineering can be used to create new materials for the Design Industry. Her graduate project, ‘Synthetic Protection: Biointelligent Membranes’, is a collection of speculative textiles based on Synthetic Biology principles. Set in the year 2100, the Biointelligent Membranes of Synthetic Protection from the disastrous effects of Global Warming. The project was in collaboration with UCL Biochemical Engineer, Dr Darren Nesbeth. Cathrine’s work is heavily research driven. She works with experimental material processes and enjoys the challenges of visualising her conceptual work through the mediums of photography and film production.
