I am a Graphic Design and Communication student at the University of Leeds, currently half way through my year in industry. With a strong aesthetic sensibility, I thrive by immersing myself in the constantly evolving design world and feel continually inspired by what's around me. My work is inquisitive and risk taking which has led me to develop a fluid ability to articulate visual language successfully. I am an enthusiastic, self-motivated and hard working designer with a strong eye for detail. I am always willing to help and encourage others and work independently and as part of a creative team.
Projects
- D&AD Monotype Brief 2016Brief set by D&AD. Having worked in a department store I witnessed how much fragrance waste their was due to strict visual merchandising rules for a lot of brands which result in destroying half used perfume testers. I then created an organisation called Wasted Beauty which protests to brands to change their visual merchandising rules to allow testers on the shelf to be finished before they are thrown away. Wasted Beauty is aimed at making the fragrance market aware of this waste and getting consumers to sign a petition available on the Wasted Beauty website to then take to brands to make them aware that it needs to be looked into and eventually stop this unnecessary waste. The organisation is more aimed towards the female market as woman tend to own more and also purchase more fragrance as 79% of woman own between 2 and 10 bottles unlike 51% of men that own between 2 and 4.
- SparkleyeThis was a branding and packaging job for a client whilst on my internship with affinity. The eye drops all do slightly different things which I wanted to convey by changing the different colours on the layer outside the eye to correspond with the rest of the packaging and all be slightly different but all part of the same brand in a contemporary style.
- M&S Confectionary PackagingThis brief was set by M&S. I began by taking the shape of the confectionary itself and made it into geometrical shapes taking inspiration from the Sainsbury's own label book, Swiss Design and Coca Cola personalised bottles. I then created a colour scheme for each individual confectionary item and designed a retro label keeping in the theme with my retro bold pattern but also representing M&S history with a contrasting contemporary typeface. The label would sit in the centre of the tin on a strap that would go around the tin, having the ingredients and information about the confectionary on the back of the strip. The strip would then be removed to lift up the lid of the tin to gain access to the confectionary. I chose to have a slip that is removable so that the customer can re-use the tin. I decided to put my final design onto a tin as it is something that M&S does not currently stock for confectionary other than one tin for mint and another for Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpillar. I feel like it would be a new innovative idea for M&S to stock as the tin could be recycled and used as a keep sake and would also keep the confectionary more fresh once opened compared to a bag; as this issue was highlighted as the most important detail in packaging for confectionary in my survey completed by my target audience.
