About me
I am an illustrator and fine artist who loves to use drawing to help make the world make sense. I often work with anthropologists, and my recent book "Light in Dark Times" written by Professor Alisse Waterston, will be out on shelves this November. I have an MA in anthropology from University College London, and have studied at both the London Fine Art Studios and the Arts Student’s League, New York. I am also making steps to design some ethnographic research that aims to better understand the value created within the act of drawing. Educational institutions often find it difficult to invest in the arts because of the immeasurability of the value it adds to society. It is my hope that with foundational ethnographic and artistic research education systems might be better positioned to invest in the arts with confidence.

  • Anthropology Text Book Cover
Anthropology Text Book CoverThe creation of a diverse group of characters for an anthropology text book titled 'Through the Lens of Anthropology' for the University or Toronto Press (publishing date Summer 2019). The characters are inspired by some of the people that are referenced in the book, others are people I’ve seen in the street and some just come from the imagination. From right to left they are: Girl wearing kente cloth, teenager, prison inmate, cool gender-neutral person, large Kenyan mama, football lovin’ kid,
  • Book Poster
Book PosterA commission for a person who loves to read the Chalet School books. I quizzed her on her favourite moments to make a surprise illustration. Jo (the heroine of the Chalet School) has eight children and writes stories for a living, the conundrum of how she manages to do this whilst quite frequently being sent to bed by her husband (who is forever disappearing on doctor’s duties) is apparently of great amusement to all Chalet School Girl fans. On this occasion Jo fell into a packing box and got st
  • Foundations for Farming illustration
Foundations for Farming illustrationFoundations for Farming, a charity in Zambia, needed some accurate but imagined depictions of what life might be like on their next project: a two year residential farming program that will enable those who live further than biking distance to learn the foundations for farming and begin to grow produce for themselves. The pictures were used as a fundraising tool, a way of explaining to those who have never been there what their money would pay for.

The creation and illustration of diverse human characters for an anthropology text-book cover, titled "Through the Lens of Anthropology." The client wanted characters that were non-stereotyped and widely representative of all different races, genders, and beliefs. I also included some of the people groups spoken about in the book: e.g. Afghan skater girls, trans-gender people, a black American chef, large bodied Kenyan ladies etc.

Anthropology News Comic StripThe American Anthropological Association
    London, United KingdomFreelance
Every two months I create a comic strip that profiles the story of an anthropologist's work or career. I interview anthropologists who are doing interesting work and use their interview to create a comic-strip story around their research. They are published as the back page feature in Anthropology News, a U.S. magazine produced by the American Anthropological Association.
