About me
I am writing to introduce myself as I am very interested in pre production and art direction in both stills and film. My name is Charlotte Long, I am a Fashion Communications graduate with a final project focused on film. I have recently returned from Copenhagen where I worked as the design and editorial intern at Kinfolk Magazine. I lived there for 3 months, and am now permanently based in London. Whilst I was there I created and photographed an image (origami style folded paper resembling fans) which is to be published in the next issue of the magazine. I also developed the marketing concept of the newest issue, which was to style and photograph the publication in a sandy, desert type setting which directly the reflected the cover and the content. Prior to Kinfolk, I worked in Brooklyn, New York as an Artwork assistant for Sandra Winther, a film director, I created artwork on photoshop to use as backgrounds for an Outdoor Voices campaign, as well as painting graphic shapes and illustrations which were layered over six short films for an Adidas campaign. After my time in New York I continued to work for Sandra back in London, researching concepts, locations and casting for projects for i-D, New Balance and Paper Magazine. I have also held short internships at Tank And Aesthetica magazines. In addition I have worked for the clothing brand Whistles for the past five years, on a part time basis, both in head office assisting with styling on shoots and visual research for window displays as well as in store. I graduated with a 1st class BA hons degree in Fashion Communication last year from Northumbria University. In my work there I collaborated with writers, illustrators, artists and sound designers to create my final project which consisted of 2 magazines and a film. This was shortlisted in the ‘Creative Direction’ award category at Graduate Fashion Week. My chosen them was ‘vulnerability’ which I represented not only creatively - in the content through the styling and photography, but also physically - with the paper type and use of red tinted clear acetate which acted as a semi visible layer to the rest of the publication, reflecting the delicate theme. I am most drawn to the creative and ideas side of any process, working across different fields has made me realise my passion is in this. I would also be every eager to learn the production of films and projects as well. The course I followed taught a wide variety of skills and meant that I covered areas such as styling, conceptual photography, set design, film production, journalism and PR as well as layout and publications. If you had any vacancies in your team which could use any of these skills I would love to hear from you. Examples of my work can be seen on my website, www.charlottelong.co.uk, I can also send you over a pdf of my most recent image for Kinfolk magazine.
