About me
Artist: Christopher McCall Medium: Chalk Pastel artist I’ve lived in the Cincinnati/Dayton Ohio area for most of my life. I can remember as a kid growing up and always using my hands to create art in some form or manner. In high school, I took a couple art classes; but still, I had no idea what I wanted to peruse after I graduated. After high school, I worked in the film industry for 10 years. I worked with many companies, like Mc Donald’s, Butler Tech, The Maury Povich Show and others. 2014 proved to be the year of great change for me, as I explored the arts once more. It’s been three years now since I transitioned from video to drawing/painting and I don’t regret it for one second. I’ve displayed my work in many art shows and festive events around the Cincinnati/Kentucky area. I’ve just recently attended my first art and music festival called “Rootwire, it was proven to be motivating and all inspiring. I continue to find inspiration through my art friends, festivals and the world around me. When it comes to an art style, people have recently classified my work as being sci-fi. With this new art direction, I’ve created a challenging; but yet satisfying degree of detail and narrative to my work. I believe this improves the overall experience for the viewer and most importantly, tells a story. I hope my work can inspire others to find their passion and live life with a meaning!

All Finished up!! “Ancient Fortitude” 22″ x 30″ Chalk pastel 07/2017With this piece “Ancient Fortitude” the primary visual focus is the two towers. They represent absolute dominance over the land and give a sense of scale and balance to the overall composition. Perhaps long ago, this “Star Wars” inspired planet was ruled by an alien race with extraordinary powers to build structures beyond ones capabilities. Now, the towers lie undisturbed, soundless and remind the people that there once was an even greater power. Each moon or planet represents a different part of time, life and energy. They work together to help maintain this dynamic and powerful world. The villages were created by an alien race who has ruled these lands as great warriors for centuries. The flags around the villages are mainly used as makers for territory, deadly acid pools and molten quicksand. The skeleton monster in the middle tells us, it may have died thousands of years ago, or it was hunted by the creatures who now rule these lands. This vast desolate landscape and all that reside in it, give life and meaning to a world of the unknown.
  • “Scarlet Skies” 14″ x 28″ chalk pastel 05/2017
“Scarlet Skies” 14″ x 28″ chalk pastel 05/2017I wanted to add a combination of surreal and fantasy to this piece. I used the towers in the middle as a focal point. From there, I wanted to guide the viewers eye’s in a continuous motion around the piece, from top to bottom. From the reflection, the eyes are drawn back to the middle, where the viewer started. Lord of the Rings artists, John Howe, Alan Lee and many others brought a lot of inspiration to this compelling and aggressive landscape.
  • “Beyond Our Control” 22″ x 30″ 03/2017
“Beyond Our Control” 22″ x 30″ 03/2017With this piece “Beyond Our Control” I wanted to use cool colors rather than warm to achieve a tranquil state of mind. The mushrooms and the waterfall really help to give it life and a sense of purpose to this piece. This world I created represents a place of complete serenity and beauty. A world not consumed by humanity, out of our reach and control.
  • Just finished my newest piece! A New Dawn, A New Day 30″ x 22″ Pastel 09/2016
Just finished my newest piece! A New Dawn, A New Day 30″ x 22″ Pastel 09/2016The story behind “A New Dawn” this dead post-apocalyptic world is much greater than you and I could ever imagine. It’s both eerie and filled with hope at the same time.  A war to end all wars destroyed this world many years ago, leaving it in ruin. You can still see the buildings that were under constructed right before the world became a wasteland. Now the sky is moving in, cleansing the land and once again restoring life to this unforgiving world. The Big tree on the right represents something dead and in the past. The clouds represent a start of something new or a change in my life. This piece really got me started into fantasy concept art and has challenged me to really think outside the box.
