About me
I’m a multi-award-winning Content and Marketing Specialist, with expertise in transmedia storytelling and building audiences for books and podcasts with a track record of generating multi-million pound revenue streams.
I started my career in 2012 through a Creative Access publishing internship at Penguin Random House after graduating from Oxford University. I worked in the publishing industry for over 7 years Identifying new publishing market opportunities and marketing countless numbers of non-fiction and fiction bestsellers from YouTubers Dan and Phil, dodie, George The Poet, Megan Jayne Crabbe, Lily Allen, Sheryl Sandberg, Professor Steve Peters, Adam Grant, Dr Edith Edgar, Andy Weir and more, generating multi-million pound revenue streams directly from my work on books, audiobooks, ebooks and live events. My highlights include pioneering the first influencer and audiobook marketing campaigns at Penguin - resulting in the fastest selling audiobook and the first audiobook to be published at a different time that the physical and digital editions, as well as creating and marketing the first non-branded podcasts within the publishing industry at Penguin Random House and Bonnier Books.
I have a particular interest in audio, podcasts, and digital storytelling. I have produced the world’s first binaural audiobook trailer downloaded over 4 million times and resulting in the fastest selling book for Penguin Random House, created the first conductive ink audiobook printed by a publisher, created and produced the first non-Penguin branded podcast; I also created the first standalone podcast series for Bonnier Books in 2019: Bathe The Podcast. Further to this I also worked with a small team to pitch a new cross-company brand and devised the idea to make it a podcast ‘The Is Spoke’ to the CEOs of Bertelsmann, Penguin, Sony BMG and Freemantle Media and won investment – it launched in autumn 2018.
In 2017, whilst working in publishing by day, by night I became the Executive Producer books podcast Mostly Lit transforming it into the UK’s number 1 independent books podcast where she produced episodes with authors such as Booker winner Arundhati Roy, Sir Lenny Henry, Ysra Daley-Ward, Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Tomi Adeyemi, Inua Ellams, Courttia Newland, Guy Gunaratne, Emma Gannon, Sam Conniff, Matt Haig and more and worked on first podcast residency at The Times and Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival and year long marketing partnership with Waterstones all in her spare time.
I left corporate publishing in 2019 after being headhunted to become a Content Development Manager at Acast developing some of the UK and world’s most listened to podcasts and crucially developing their audience. In addition to working on growing the audiences of no.1 podcasts from Feel Better Live More (the UK’s largest podcast hosted by a person of colour) Dear Joan and Jericha, The High Low and launching global hits The Missing Crypto-Queen, I have expertise in working on launching podcasts and growing audiences of new podcasts like no.1 Reality Check with Amber, Anna and Yewande which became the first podcast hosted by women of colour on Acast to go to no.1 to gal-dem, Talking Politics History Of Ideas a new podcast aimed at students and curious thinkers launched in lockdown which topped the charts receiving over 250k listens in the first week of launch , an innovative daily podcast from Murad Merali and more - focusing also on working both with new independent podcasters and digital-first publishers like gal-dem, Polyester, Amaliah Black Ballad to LADBible.
Outside of working at Acast I sit on the advisory board for Creative Access - a social enterprise dedicated to providing paid internships for young people from under-represented backgrounds - and I work via my own creative studio where I am an independent producer, exec producer and marketeer and work on no.1 personal development, business and finance podcast Caught Off Guard created and hosted by Patricia Bright launched in 2019). I also mentor students, writers and podcasters.
