My role involves working for a leading provider of decorative interior & exterior lighting to national retailers (B2B). By identifying design trends and exploit market opportunities to create original product ideas, which drive consistent and sustainable revenue. I take an active role in the conceptualisation and development of new products by ensuring the designs match the given briefs. As well as liaising directly with our manufacturing partners to reduce lead times and increase speed to market.
My role also involves:
• Generating numerous concepts quickly and effectively through sketching.
• Extensive use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Fusion 360 to render concepts for clients.
• 3D visualisation skills by producing mock-ups in the workshop. Utilising different techniques in metalwork, 3D printing and paper/card modelling.
• Determine appropriate materials, construction, colour and surface finishes to match set design briefs in terms of technical quality and costing.
• Communicate with other disciplines within the business to achieve an appropriate execution of projects.
• Communicating and building working relationships both internally and externally.
• Design for manufacture and interpreting technical drawings from our international manufacturing partners.
• Design exhibition spaces to represent our brands & products at international lighting business events.

Using my specialised skills with 3D modelling and rendering, I worked within a unique team for NTU design Industries on a state of the art virtual exhibition for my cohort of 2020. We demonstrated a new way that future exhibitions can be explored and distributed digitally with cutting edge technology. We came up with a solution during the COVID-19 pandemic which allows industry people and the public to view everyone’s university’s work in a 3D space, from the comfort of their home or office.

For example, my dissertation explores how a combination of AI and quantum supremacy will affect the role of the product designer and design processes.
