About me

I'm Dan, a graphic designer and artworker, music lover, amateur baker and amateur photographer. I've got many years experience of working across diverse sectors from civil engineering to arts and community in public, private and third sector organisations. I've worked on branding, exhibitions, brochures, advertising, conferences and bids. I believe in simplicity, that well designed solutions should be uncomplicated to use, even if the problem is.

  • I was responsible for internal and external communications for Transport for Buckinghamshire. This included writing press releases, answering press enquiries, writing internal Network Bulletins, contributing to Buckinghamshire County Council’s internal newsletters, writing articles for Parish magazines, developing factsheets and producing all marketing and publicity materials. This was all done in reference to the communications plan, ensuring that key messages were communicated at the appropriate time. I carried out media monitoring and video production. I was responsible for graphic design, creating branding and layout guides and producing publications for internal and external uses. I was also responsible for the communications activities for East West Rail and for corporate tasks for Ringway Jacobs when required. I developed the layout and design of the 2012/13 Business Plan, a key document detailing changes to the organisation of the contract within local government structure, working with senior management to ensure that content is accurate, engaging and consistent with key messages. I achieved a more contemporary look and feel to the document than previous editions whilst maintaining high values of production, content and the corporate style.

  • I was responsible for all internal communications and for the delivery of the Equality and Diversity Framework. This involved building links with the communities in which we worked in order to develop engagement activities and distributing notices to frontages and customer satisfaction surveys to properties affected by works and for the analysis and reporting of returned data. I wrote internal Network Bulletins and the ‘Central Issue’ magazine, liaising with colleagues across the contract to produce interesting and accurate stories. I managed the corporate website including the transfer of content to a new site and produced corporate materials such as the Induction Pack and the Corporate Brochure. Responsibilities: internal communications - bulletins, memos, company magazine; development of Corporate Brochure; web content; public relations - owner of complaints procedure; sending letters pre work and surveys post work; collating and reporting of results; design of covers for reports, brochures etc; schools intervention work; maintenance of company image library; upkeep of office noticeboards and flat screen displays; liaison with other contracts at Transport for Buckinghamshire, Cheshire East and BEAR Scotland.

  • I was responsible developing the web and social media presence of the company, producing and managing the website and testing the response to different social media platforms in order to develop an effective strategy. I produced fliers, reports and posters as well as related web content. I was also responsible for producing video content to accompany reports and document events. I worked with volunteers, led focus groups and gained experience with working alongside a wide range of BME communities. This included co-leading a course for South Asian women, leading a focus group for Muslim elders and working with mental health service users to plan a celebration event. I co-managed events including a celebration of volunteering in Nottingham, the launch of the Take Part initiative report and an audience with John Bercow. Responsibilities included: web design and upkeep (Wordpress); video production; design and production of advertising materials, reports; media communication, including press releases and use of social networking to boost effectiveness of projects and events; led focus groups, sometimes with translators; events organisation and facilitation.
