About me
A highly experienced, well-regarded editor, writer, and project manager, I work concisely and methodically to tight deadlines, am extremely organised, and perform well under pressure. A key aspect of my work is attention to detail and a collaborative approach. I have undertaken editorial and writing assignments, and managed publishing projects, in the UK, the US, Europe and the Middle East, in the publishing, commercial and third sectors. I am a linguist with a love of language and an understanding of how words should flow across a page. With an excellent understanding of diverse client requirements, I take responsibility within the workplace, I am a confident communicator. Solution-focused, I am not afraid to make changes as required in a diplomatic and sensitive way. I am proficient in Word and InDesign. Currently freelancing as a proofreader for Hachette’s crime imprint Little, Brown Book Group, I also write for Waitrose Weekend. After winning a literary award in August 2018, I recently completed the edits of my first novel Splintered Lives. I am author of a blog View From A Broad about my time living and working in the Middle East, and am an editorial mentor to writers for whom English is not a first language. I was recently commissioned to write a research paper and contribute to a book on ‘The Impact of the Smartphone on Journalism’. As deputy editor of Good Housekeeping (Middle East) I was integral to the title’s launch in the Middle East. I have written travel guides for Frommer’s, Gallimard Loisirs and the tourist boards of Dubai, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. I was editor of guidebooks Destination Dubai and The Soul of Dubai. I was project editor for Brownbook Publishers and sub editor of Good Housekeeping and arts and culture magazines Brownbook, Alef and Ego, as well as a copywriter for clients including Blackberry, Cadillac, Mercedes Benz, Panasonic, Persil, Samsung. I have worked at mental health charity Mind, where I ran Creative Writing courses for service users.
