I’m a versatile, hands-on Creative Director and Designer with over 18 years experience. As a digital specialist, I’ve worked agency and client side, leading design teams on projects for many high profile brands. Experienced in designing for a range of channels including web, tablet, mobile and TV, I create effective solutions that are backed by user-centred design principles and strategic thinking. With an eye for detail, passion for technology and generous dollop of good humour, I play nicely with others.
I set up one-man studio Anywhere Here to offer digital design services and consultancy to other agencies, startups and individuals. To date, I’ve worked on projects including: the design of numerous websites (both responsive and non-responsive), email newsletters, web applications, a large interactive touch-screen installation and native apps across iOS, Android, Windows and Xbox One platforms. My role is varied, and I wear different hats daily, depending on whether I’m crafting visuals, planning projects, discussing ideas with clients, working with agency teams, managing suppliers or performing business admin.
As Creative Director at Rufus Leonard, I was responsible for building and managing a team of digital designers, and ensuring the delivery of effective and engaging creative. In a nutshell, my role involved planning projects with designers, other account team members and clients, overseeing work from a creative perspective and attending and presenting at regular client meetings. I also directed, led the creative on and presented at numerous new business pitches. Working with colleagues, I developed various initiatives to help inspire and nurture the creative team, such as monthly ‘Creative Breakfast’ knowledge sharing sessions, and frequent trips to conferences.
Undertook a lead designer role on both the QinetiQ and O2 accounts. QinetiQ account involved corporate website and intranet redesign projects, sponsorship sites, product animations and an award-winning technology showcase site. On the O2 account I worked on numerous projects, ranging from the design of a large site for their sales teams, product microsites and future visioning work for customers’ online account management. Across both accounts I was involved in regular client presentations and worked with junior members of the design team. Continued to work on and take part in a number of successful pitch presentations. Wins included the Identity and Passport Service and Department for International Development (DFID).
Worked closely with Project Managers, Strategists, IAs, Developers, Designers and a Creative Director on the Royal Mail and Shell Chemicals account teams. Projects ranged from full website redesigns to smaller flash animated pieces. In addition to client work, I also worked with teams on a number of successful pitches for Millennium Commission, StopGap, Ocean Village and O2.
Being the sole designer, I was the main point of contact for all design related requirements from the team. This included everything from designing web pages and tools for the portal, to the interface on the installation CD that went out to members. As the site grew, I recruited a Junior Designer to help support the increasing number of design requirements.
As part of the design team, my role was to liaise with web producers to understand content requirements for online channels of the AOL service. Then create screen design concepts and subsequent graphical assets required to build the pages. I also worked with Corporate Communications team from time to time, designing printed materials for conferences and AOL sponsored events.
