About me
Hello, I’m David Gibson — a freelance graphic designer from London and a graduate of the Royal College of Art. I'm currently available for freelance and full-time positions. My aim is to create simple, thoughtful design that cuts through the noise. I am a collaborative, multi-disciplinary designer — comfortable working across branding, digital, print, illustration and moving image. I have led workshops, organised lectures and curated exhibitions. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art I’ve gained 4 years of industry experience, both as a Lead Designer at Sparks Studio and as a freelancer, for clients as diverse as Warner Music, BBC Radio Wales, Royal College of Art, Octopus, and Mckinsey & Co. My ambition is to create meaningful work that’s underpinned by thorough research, meticulous craft and clear ideas. I want to help people tell compelling stories and solve tough communication problems. I'm currently available for freelance and full-time positions.
Projects
  • Higham & Company
Higham & CompanyHigham & Company are a film studio with a family feel, founded by seasoned documentary and promotional filmmakers Jeremy & Esther Higham. The logotype is inspired by shop fronts of Victorian family businesses, but with a modern approach. We created a family seal in which the letters J and E are hidden in the H — a subtle nod to the company’s past.
  • Active Service Gospel
Active Service GospelDuring the First World War, Lifewords gave out 42 million copies of John’s Gospel to troops. We were commissioned to create a replica edition for the First World War centenary — in the spirit of the original, but with a few considered changes. We painstakingly redrew artwork and researched the historical typefaces and papers to be as sensitive to the original version as possible. We inserted new content, including stories from soldiers who received the originals, and artwork based on key texts.
  • Red Tape
Red TapeRed Tape was a series of 6 events at the Royal College of Art with dozens of high profile guests — from graphic design legend Ken Garland to Rick Poyner. The aim of the events was to explore the ever-changing landscape of visual communication, reflected in the identity which warps and changes. Alongside the organisation and branding of the events, we created a website, posters and a series of readers.
