About me
My name is Edward Lown, and I am hard working and have a variety of skills and experience which can easily be applied in many different areas. I will soon be graduating with a master’s degree in the History and Philosophy of Art from the University of Kent, and I have a passion for art, its history and functions. However, I am also very creative and have highly developed painting and drawing skills as well as experience in a workshop. This allows me to come up with creative ideas and be able to execute them. I have also had experience helping set up and run a student art exhibition at the University of Kent’s Studio Three Gallery entitled P is For Pop, P is For Print in 2017 exploring the British origins of Pop Art. This gave me experience in marketing, leadership and teamwork as well as allowing me to contribute towards the exhibition catalogue by writing about the artist Gerald Laing (a copy of which is now in the British Library). My involvement in the marketing team gave me experience in contacting newspapers and magazines for advertising as well as making sure advertising was consistent, informative, grammatically correct and designed to specific regulations. My time invigilating at this exhibition also gave me experience in providing information to visitors, selling the catalogue and monitoring the gallery space (light, humidity, visitor numbers etc.). During my time at university, I also enrolled in a course entitled Creative Arts Writing. This course allowed me to learn how to write for specific audiences using different house styles and how to create interesting and informative articles. Outside of academia, I have had experience working at the Hartlepool Maritime Museum, an art gallery and museum where I would give tours and information to visitors. I have also had experience in researching art provenance using my knowledge of art history, online sources and books. I am also able to effectively use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel as well as having some basic experience with Photoshop. Writing university essays has also given me the ability to manage my time and plan while working towards deadlines effectively. I also have a full clean driving licence. Some of my paintings have also been used in a student magazine in 2017.
