I'm a 3rd Year Media Studies undergraduate at Anglia Ruskin University. I am also the President / Lead Editor of the student newspaper (Ruskin Journal) and was Publicity & Liaison Officer for Cam FM 97.2.Locked Pro Plan feature
During the midst of my second year, two friends and I decided to found a new university newspaper, after the current one dissolved a few years ago. After months of negotiations, we created the Ruskin Journal - Anglia Ruskin University's Online Newspaper. As committee President, I run the editorial and management part of the newspaper, whilst also writing for the paper myself. I organise meetings between the departments and student union, plus campaign to get more students signed up and press the importance of freelance writing as a student. I organise socials, meetings and having guest speakers to come talk to the writers, whilst also editing and reviewing every article posted on the website.
After being a radio presenter for a year, I decided to expand my position in the company and was elected Publicity and Liaison Officer for the radio station. I create graphics and promotions for upcoming sporting / music events, promote the current shows being broadcast, assist in resolution of issues, run communication between the station and university, whilst working with the committee in the daily running of the station.
I worked as a junior assistant for the publicity team of author Lynda la Plante for a week. In this time I helped in organising the schedule for her latest book release, setting up radio interviews, admin work in the office and providing feedback on her latest manuscript. This improved my teamwork, management and editing skills.
I worked as a runner for a week at the production company. I assisted in setting up the live shows, running errands for the editors, arrange meetings for those in head office and edited post-production footage. This gave me hands on experience for the running of a live studio, plus experience in film & print editing, and meeting crucial deadlines.
As a Media Studies student, I cover a large variety of modules including: Journalism, Film Criticism, Web Design, Basic Coding, Language Development, Marxism, Culture Development, Post Production, Radio Presenting & Production, Sound & Vision, Digital Media, Feminism Studies, Interpellation, and Adobe Software including InDesign & Photoshop. For my dissertation, I am writing a research paper about the ethical implications of sentient Artificial Intelligence.
I attended Rosebery School for Girls in Epsom, Surrey for 5 years as a secondary school student and 2 years in the 6th Form. I obtained 9 GCSEs and 3 A Levels including History (B), Government & Politics (B) and English Literature (C). I was also the Media Studies Rep from 2012-2013, gained my Bronze & Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards and was the Holocaust Ambassador for the South East in 2015 with ASDAN Accreditation.
I was elected by my school as a holocaust ambassador for HET. I worked on numerous projects to help educate GCSE and A Level students about the horrors that were endured during WW2. I also travelled to Auschwitz One, Auschwitz Birkenau and the surrounding jewish villages to learn more. During a conference that year I also had the chance to meet a few holocaust survivors and hear their testimonies and to help spread awareness in the local community. To this day I still write blog posts each year to commemorate the liberation of the camps and to keep the message alive
I worked towards both the DofE Awards during my GCSEs, which included volunteering for my local Scouts Group and assisting elderly residents. I also made advancements in my skills as a pianist and then teaching these to other students. I completed two expeditions in Surrey, one in Sussex and one in the New Forest, spanning from 1-3 days/nights respectively.
