About me
My name is Elena Casini: graduated in Architecture from this summer, artist ever since I was born. During these years, I have shaped my passion for Architecture as a comprehensive mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Thanks to the International Master Program at the Politecnico di Milano and the working experience, I am going through: I have caught the opportunity to work in multiethnic teams, sharing ideas and competencies. Now, I want to step forward.

Work history
    Creative Intern
     - Rome, ItalyFull Time
The internship period was subdivided into two phases: 150 hours as a student internship, and two months more to continue and improve the working experience in the Studio. Starting to work on the project Is Molas, a Golf Resort under construction in Sardinia, with creativity and respect for the concept, I was initially placed in the selection of the materials, treatments and finishing textures of the plasters and the floorings design. I had been a CAD and Rhinoceros drawer, well using the Adobe Suite for the post-production of the materials done, being always in time with the deliveries. From the second week of April, I was moved to the model laboratory till the 19th of June, because of the re-organization of the working groups; I got familiar with the competition's world, learning the techniques and the methods to be a model maker. Starting from a 3D model to arrive with different materials and technologies (such as 3d printing and laser cut) to a final maquette, to study as a test for the architecture designed.

Education
    Master Architecture
     - Milan, Italy
The programme in Architecture and Urban Design provides students with an advanced training in the field of Architectural Design and develops theoretical, humanistic, artistic and design competencies based on the Italian tradition, facing different housing cultures, the new forms and spaces of contemporary cities, the development of new urban settlements in developing countries, the innovation in building techniques and environmental sustainability. The educational path meets adequately the increasing need to face the complexity of problems and the new professional responsibility of architects, as required both in Europe and worldwide. The programme focuses on the core Architectural Design experience at various scales, both in theory and in practice. The educational offer makes it possible to characterize one’s study plan thanks to optional courses and to elective thematic and final Design Studios.
    Bachelor in Architecture
     - Italy
The Bachelor of Science in Architectural Design aims at the formation of graduates mastering the theoretical fundamentals and the operational tools needed for designing architecture on its various scales and paying attention to the conditions posed by the complexity of the transformation processes of the built environment. The educational programme includes a wide disciplinary framework based on science, the humanities and arts, reflecting the wide spectrum of knowledge and skills required nowadays by an architect in order to adequately address the challenges, engaging him at an international level, also. Particularly relevant are the studies related to the disciplinary fields of history of architecture and art, representation and math, sociology, urban planning, architectural composition, architectural technology, building physics, statics and mechanics of materials and structures, historical building conservation, project evaluation. All the above-mentioned fields are equally involved in the development of critical thinking skills as well as the mastery of techniques, needed for design activity. Design training has a central role in the educational programme and it is based on a strong synergy between multidisciplinary studios and disciplinary courses: studios provide the methodological and operational skills required to conceive, represent and develop an architectural project, considering its construction implications; courses provide the basic knowledge supporting the design practice. Studios and courses are flanked by seminars, conferences, workshops, exhibitions and study trips, in order to allow the student to encounter the most significant professional and research contexts both, national and international. The internship completes the educational cycle, as a fundamental link with the world of professionals, companies or public administration, according to the propensity and attitude of the student. At the end of the curriculum, the graduates will have adequate knowledge of the fundamentals concerning methods and techniques of architectural and urban design, history of architecture, theories and tools of representation, structural and plant sizing, historical building conservation and diagnostics techniques, construction, technical as well as economic feasibility related to the transformation processes of the built environment.
