From the Middle Ages to modern times, from Yorkshire to the world, the English language is constantly changing, to reflect and shape our thought and cultures. My education allowed me to explore this rich language and its literary heritage via prose, poetry and drama, from the beginnings of written English to current writers. It covered literary periods and movements such as the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Romantic era, and the Victorian age, as well as studying historical developments in topics such as the Roots of Ideas, Gender, Children's Literature, and Postmodern Fiction, whilst giving me the opportunity to develop my own creative writing and to follow personal academic interests through research. After completing a research project on "Didacticism within Children's Literature", I graduated with a 2:1 and a far greater understanding of and respect for the many forms of English Literature.
