  DissertationMy dissertation was a feminist critique of the story of Martha and Mary in the Gospel of Luke 10.38-42. It aimed to understand the interpretations of this passage throughout history, with a focus on St. Augustine’s influence and to understand the ways in which it became a tool for the oppression of women within the Church. The dissertation included sermons from the Early Modern period which use Luke 10.38-42, reviews of Diego Velazquez’s ‘Christ in the House of Martha and Mary’ and Pieter Aertse
