About me

I am a fully trained NCTJ-accredited Journalist after completing the National Council for the Training of Journalists Multimedia Journalism qualification at the Press Association. Whilst there, I obtained 100wpm in Teeline Shorthand and passed modules in Media Law, Public Affairs, News Reporting and Subbing & Production. Currently, I am on work experience at Channel 5 News after recently interning in the Digital Features/Special Projects department at CNN International at their European Headquarters. My continuous writing contributions alongside my BA (Hons) degree provided me with the ability to be able to manage my time effectively. My keen interest in the media and in journalism has also previously resulted in me gaining a place at an intensive two-week Journalism course at News Associates, the top Journalism school in the UK, work experience at the Guardian and attendance at several media events held at Channel 4, NUS and Amnesty International. I have strong interpersonal skills and can perform both independently and as part of a team. I pride myself on my first-rate communication, friendliness and hard-working nature, and have proven this in various interviews that I have held with public figures and celebrities alike.

Work Experience

Channel 5

Apr 2016
  • I am currently on work experience with the Channel 5 News Team. During my time there, I am researching, fact-checking, attending daily editorial meetings and conducting interviews with people of interest for the 5o’clock news programme. I am also shadowing various broadcasters and helping to edit and create accessible and compelling TV packages.

2016

Digital Features & Special Projects Intern

CNN International

Jan 2016 - Mar 2016
  • I was an intern at CNN in their Digital Features/Special Projects department where I would regularly write features, interview people of interest, record video, edit, research, fact-check, provide production and administrative support as well as participate in editorial meetings and learn how an award-winning online news website and channel operates. I also assisted video producers on shoots and now have a vast understanding of how TV packages are reflected online with specific digital treatments including writes, video cut downs and social activity which can include live Facebook chats. My internship saw me produce content that was shared both on CNN International and the official CNN website homepage.

2015

Work Experience

The Guardian

Jul 2015 - Dec 2015
  • Whilst studying for my NCTJ, I worked one day a week for The Guardian Students section. There, I pitched and wrote weekly articles and even had a gallery that I put together feature on the Guardian homepage for the whole day. It got over 12,000 views in less than eight hours and proved to be popular amongst readers. The article I am most proud of which blends both advocacy – that universities need to meet rising mental health requirements – and my own personal experiences.

2013

Account Co-ordinator

Prime Time Recruitment

Jul 2012 - Jul 2013
  • Based at Jacobs Factory (United Biscuits), tasks included handling correspondence, keeping files and records, helping to recruit employees and making presentations to groups of people. Computer skills were essential, as were good writing and analytical skills. My job far exceeded that of the title role and often I conducted large interviews, role-play and training days on my own.
