From July to September of 2021, I worked for the BBC Studios as an office and location runner for the RHS Flower Show production crew. There, I predominantly liaised with the production manager and coordinator’s of the show to ensure all essential items were sourced and available on site for both Chelsea and Hampton Court. One element of my role as the office runner was scanning signage to alert the show attendees of different filming activities. I gained some experience of excel spreadsheets, in particular, accumulating the shoe size of a huge crew to ensure steel-capped toe boots were available to everyone. I additionally filed key post-productions documents; for example, inventories and printed materials which were essential for subsequent shows. When filming, appropriate time management was crucial to my role as a location runner due to the editors working towards same-day broadcasting deadlines. I assisted by filling in PSC log sheets with item names, numbers and timecodes and rushing these along with the XQD cards to the editing suites every half an hour. This work was pressurised and required my ability to communicate via telephone and radio while remaining calm and organised for my crew.

Assisted the research team, completing various research and developmental tasks for future factual productions. Here I was given the opportunity to think of original and creative ideas by independently preparing my own research brief throughout the week, which I ultimately presented to the creative director and executive producer. This was exceptionally worthwhile in understanding the role of a production researcher and how to produce and draft original ideas. I was also trusted with time-logging highly sensitive documentary material pre-release date, whereby I created a detailed document, marking the time-codes and dialogue of hours of raw footage.
