I am currently working as a full-time intern at the London based tech start-up, Fat Lama. I began my internship focussing primarily on operations covering many duties: from customer service (including live chats and phone calls), to assisting the Head of Operations with some marketing based tasks, to continuing to write articles for the PR sector of the company. After a month of this, I applied to transfer internally into a full-time PR and Content writing intern. In this role, I create my own PR campaigns pitching guest blog pieces to range of established websites and bloggers. I then manage these relationships and write original, tailored content for any bloggers who accept my pitch. These articles can be hugely varied in topic from promotional pieces for Fat Lama, to environmental issues and analysis of the photo-sharing app Vero. Alongside this, I work on any press releases from Fat Lama as and when they arise. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work to tight deadlines and first-rate writing.

I spent two months as a full-time front of house member at Raasay House - a hotel and outdoor activity centre on a small but busy Scottish island off Skye. The house had over a 100 residents but also served as the only bar, restaurant and café for the local community. As such, it was a unique experience of catering for a large and varied clientele whilst dealing with the issues attached to island life. It required resourcefulness, excellent customer service and a strong work ethic.

The main focus of my study was socio-cultural history as that was my primary area of interest. However, within these bounds, I tried to undertake as wide a range of modules as possible from Ming China, to The Great Irish Famine, and Stalin's Russia in order to increase my exposure and knowledge of the subject.
