Hello, I'm Francis!
I find value in recording and playing with themes that exist in the everyday. People, places and situations find their way into my personal work; I've always sought to observe and reflect the current state of things. I do this through drawing and note taking which act as the main vehicle for creative output. Drawing allows my process to evolve through immediacy and spontaneity; journal keeping and intuitive scrawls also empower my creative decisions in a commercial context.
Much of my current work is exploring handcraft processes and self-publication. Even when working digitally I attempt to retain a sense of the aura of handmade things; my work often hybridises traditional media with new technologies and their great potential.
I am absolutely fascinated by design of the past- heritage motifs, sign writing, woodblock and book design. I believe it is worth emulating and drawing inspiration from these ways of making things - it's exciting to use these familiar visual elements in new ways.
The long and short of it - I am an applied artist who has never been overly concerned with a coherent style, but more by passions and context.
I'm driven by my ability to remain adaptable and take on new challenges with finese.
