- there was an opening the carpet was squishyCurator of the exhibition along with six colleagues. The exhibition is generated from the study of John Latham's archive in Flat Time House in South London. The curatorial approach of 'There was an opening, the carpet was squishy' is specifically related to a limited period of time 1972-1973 in which Latham and a group of radical and avant-garde artists were involved in events and exhibitions in an unoccupied space in South Kensington, London. This place was called Gallery House. The peculiarity of the space was that it never closed, never charged admission, and never censored artists. The aim is to represent a similar approach in terms of freedom from market rules and embrace the idea of a type of art which is not just a commodity. Additionally, a limited edition publication was produced with the generous support of Lisson Gallery. The exhibition of four contemporary artists ran from 28 November - 11 December at Flat Time House. The opening weekend consisted of a curated programme of performances and events.
