About me

Glen Paul Mendes Undergraduate Wimbeldon UAL Camberwell UAL Student at MA Illustration & Visual Media Artist Statement I have a Shamanic relationship of ritual and ceremony weaved into my work by creating a sacred space and inviting in creative energy. In my travelling to find sacred places traditional ways of living humanely, I have been immersed within cultural differences and poverty that can lead to social exclusion, and indifference to the caretaking of our natural landscape. Within my research I discovered that setting sacred space within natural boundaries’ blessing the materials, as a form of honoring the work this spiritual intention helps to bring in a beautiful way of being, this aliveness has movement called balancing the shields within the sacred and the profane, joy and sadness, magic and mystery language builds via a process of mechanics that form orderly and random structures, which have roots in travel and experience from this a sense of freedom into storytelling that provides an escape into another world With Influences from specific histories such as Sculptress Barbara Hepworth, painters Antoni Tapies, Guiseppe Penone, Jackson Pollock, and Ci Twombly Installers Jimmie Durham and Joseph Beuys Photographer Micheal Freeman. From a wealth of previous experience ingredient builds, gives fullness this essence forms a narrative for storytelling where Earth Air Fire Water elements, painting/image making and objects are married by a Shaman ritual and becomes the works mojo. I am aware that hunting with intention that is the finding of objects to be transformed retain a place in the subconscious yet elevate us into universal mind. It has become important in regard to installation work to have a presence within the piece to hold that space. So walking into the work with respect becomes a cultural objective with an epitaph of possibilities for our future existence. Displays of work Looked at Benn Judd, Val Britton, Robert Morris Imperial Museum and Street Art in Bricklane.
