About me
WEBSITE - www.gracie-ashton-design.co.uk I am a 22 year old free-lance graphic designer based in London who has just recently graduated from Brighton University - Graphic Design - BA (Hons). I have always been surrounded by design. Whether that comes with having an ever-growing library of what I deem to be ‘aesthetic’ in magazines, look-books and publications or whether it is just my oddly addictive personality towards stationary - I do not know. What I do know is, I just love it. My work is heavily inspired by both Japanese and Scandinavian design, whereby simplicity and functionality come hand in hand. The likes of Kenya Hara, Ikko Tanaka to Werklig and Bedow, are just a very small but significant fraction of designers that have helped me in discovering what I admire most. I like to think my work predominantly focuses on how type and colour aid one another in achieving a successful visual identity. My work is very much about context, I do tend to think more personally, whether that is working for myself or for a specific audience, before my design ideas are ready to be played with. My interest towards package design and branding is ever-growing. I have so much more to learn and experience in this field but I a very eager learner. There is something about the tangibility of package design that pushes my ideas so much further - I think very carefully about the sensory experience that design has the ability to provide.

Taking on the role of a designer included taking part in frequent creative meetings, specifically in art direction. Listening and responding to set briefs and brainstorming ideas for clients developed my confidence in working with professional employees. Additionally, carrying out my own personal research and rendered designs through adobe software improved my time management in a professional industry. This experience was incredibly beneficial as it gave me a taste of what a creative working environment is like, providing me with the knowledge of meeting target dates and working creatively in a team.

Working as a volunteer for an NHS Collaborative international meet-up. We worked for the International spring festival for Salix & Co in the East Room of the TATE Modern. We offered art of improvisation workshops which served as ice breakers for each individual from the NHS. These artistic and theatrical means helped served to challenge notions of leadership. It was a really character building experience for both myself and all of the intelligent individuals that met on the day. They shared more then just their professions which made for a really humbling and rewarding day of volunteering.
