About me
I have recently graduated from a BA HONS Graphic Communication course at Norwich University of the Arts, achieving a first class honours degree. I employ a method of exploring, making and considering work along the boundaries of graphic design, printmaking and 3D design. Craft is at the heart of my practice and I have a keen interest in the hand made, tactile and interactive aspect of design work. My work extends into many different disciplines and my versatility allows me to tackle briefs in the most appropriate way.
Projects
  • The Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera HouseMy self initiated brief focused on creating a new visual identity for the Royal Opera House. Using sound and sound visualisation as its main idea, I took select arias from each of the different operas and converted them into waveforms and dots. These individual pieces of imagery were then over printed to create musical patterns. I created a series of posters which use the waveforms from each aria in their simplest form, using dynamic typography and layout to create eye catching, visual posters
  • Great British Stories | John Lewis
Great British Stories | John LewisSubmission for the 2016 D&AD John Lewis brief. The brief required us to design a window display for The John Lewis flagship store on Oxford Street for the Autumn season. 'Great British Stories' showcases the love, trust and good nature of John Lewis through British stories with a moral message. For the autumn season only, John lewis stories all around the country will use their window displays to illustrate a moral story by a location specific author. The Oxford street flagship store features the story 'The Land of Far Beyond' by London born author Enid Blyton. The window display tells the story of a group of cruel wanderers who are physically shown their emotional burdens on their backs. In order to rid their burdens they must travel to the Land of Far Beyond through difficult ways and hard paths. The journey teaches them moral life lessons and eventually makes them better people. The moral lessons in the story reflect the good natured values of the John Lewis brand. We wanted to create an experience for the passer by and therefore created a bright, colourful, interesting but conceptually relevant display that would attract attention and interest to the John Lewis store. The window display is interactive, with a portal into the 'Great British stories' app and the John Lewis website, allowing passers by to explore not just the products featured in the window display but much more from each category. I also created a series of three book covers that use the unique patterned leaves featured in the window display. These books would be sold on special edition for the autumn season only, Each book would relate directly to the story used in the window display in that location.
  • TIED | The Sharing Economy
TIED | The Sharing EconomyTIED is a project in response to the 2016 RSA brief 'Fair Share'. Which asked us to 'design a way to keep the sharing economy fair, so that more people participate in it.' Renting is not the same as sharing. The defining principle of the 'Sharing economy' has changed; big companies are renting things for profit instead of actually finding ways to share things to help others. TIED is a non-profit, location specific and web orientated platform that is run by the community, for the community. Members of the community join the TIED website and app by defining at least one skill, item or piece of knowledge that they are willing to share with other people. This in turn means that they can borrow or learn something from someone else for free. TIED is made for members of the general community but also for purely local businesses looking to build their way up the reputation ladder. Businesses who join the TIED website have agreed and have been verified to be following all the necessary rules that mean they are a fair company. TIED connects communities and businesses together, a relationship that is based around trust and the idea of helping your local community. The visual language of the website is based around symmetrical patterns, uniquely created for the TIED platform to show equality between all members of the community and all businesses. I also created a unique typeface for this project. The typeface was created using a grid of equals signs, again reflecting the equal nature of the platform. The lines of the typeface all link up creating a connected typographic language that reflects the beliefs of the company.
  • Forage
ForageForage' required us to contact a designer or a design agency that we admire and ask them for a brief. We were encouraged to do this in a way that was unique, unusual and something that would grab the attention of our chosen audience. The result would be relevant to our chosen designer and really push the boundaries of our practice. This project was a collaboration with design partner Evie Wright. We decided to contact a big inspiration of both of ours, Morag Myerscough. Her designs, her work e
  • NUA Degree show Branding 2015
NUA Degree show Branding 2015Internal competition entry to design the branding for the 2015 Degree Shows at Norwich University of the Arts. 2015 marked 170 years of NUA and therefore our identity had to be memorable. This was a collaboration project with myself and Evie Wright. University is a life changing experience and you learn skills and have experience's that will stay with you long after you leave. The time spent studying at NUA leaves an impression on the student and the student in turn leaves an impression on the university itself. Our idea was based around the idea of 'impression' and the skills that you learn through your experiences at university and that will stay with you for life. Creating hand made stamps that symbolise the mark the university and the graduates leave on each other became the visual identity for our project. The identity was used for the Degree show invitations, posters and flyers. The Invitation used a variety of printing techniques to enforce our message, de-bossing the word 'Impression' out of the invite re-enforced the meaning of the word itself.
  • Patterns & Prints | Personal projects
Patterns & Prints | Personal projectsI have passion for screenprinting and print illustration. These are a few of the prints I designed at university and printed in the studio. I am currently in the process of designing a new series of prints, inspired by architecture around the world that will be printed soon.
