Projects
- Now, Pray.In a recent series of work titled Now, Pray, I use patchwork and quilting as a foundation to unfold a personal narrative; recollecting moments, conversations and observations that create a fragmented account of family history. The work on paper is influenced by patchwork motifs, such as Flying Geese, Sawtooth Stars, and Dutchman’s Puzzle. The work on cloth is created using a quilt block called a Dresden Plate, which is traditionally sewn onto a quilt top before quilting. The paper and fabric works converse; tied together by a story, motifs and textural qualities. Integrating printmaking and quiltmaking creates a platform to discuss the diverse techniques, the expanding definitions, and the difficulties of the assumed restraints that a technique lead practice embodies. It is important to challenge the notion that creativity is subdued by technique, by continuing to establish a strong language that is unique to the printmaker and the quiltmaker.
