Working on and behind the scenes of ‘The Very Big Catwalk’ as part of the Transatlantic 175 jubilee – “From the Mersey to Manhattan”. A cooperation between Very.co.uk, Wayne Hemmingway and Culture Liverpool, in successful attempt to break the Gunnies World Record for having the most models on a catwalk. Working the week following up to the event, I learned great skills from the team at Culture Liverpool. I improved my levels of organisational skills, I learned the basics of model management in terms of events and I got an insight to event planning and management in general & learned the importance of attention to every little detail – especially when organising an event of that size. I also helped create an app for one of Culture Liverpool’s other events called ‘LIMF’. On the day of the event I also acted as a “runner” during the show, making sure we had the right count of models coming through in order to win the Gunnies World Record. Later on I was working at the VIP venue, helping out the team and forming relationships with the guests.
Enhancing skills including creative thinking, basic sewing and crafting skills and an introduction to fashion illustration. I also got an insight to entrepreneurship & small business management, and an overall view of how the fashion industry works. During fashion week I experienced what it’s like to work in the fast paced creative industry. The days following up to the big show, I assisted in finishing and polishing the collection, I attended various open showrooms (including David’s own) and I helped with the finishing touches & overall preparations for the fashion show. During the show I worked behind the scenes, preparing and dressing the models to walk on the catwalk. After the show I went to a social event celebrating the success of David’s new line, networking and socialising with other people in the industry.
