I recently graduated from University of Brighton BA(Hons) Graphic Design. My design practice is informed by my obsession with collecting. I have a large collection of ephemera and objects that I constantly add to and refer to when designing.
For my final major project at University I created a body of work investigating voyeurism. Inspired by literature and films such as Bedroom Eyes, Blue Velvet and Rear Window, I created a narrative of my own titled The Morbid Urge to Gaze. Opposing the notions of the male-gaze, I created a non-gendered perspective to take the reader on a journey into voyeurism. The narrative created encouraged the reader to become voyeuristic, suggesting the influence of imagery and mystery. This influence of imagery and mystery is something I continue to design work on, I am extremely interested in the investigative approach to work, sequential design and telling a story through my work.
I am a versatile designer, shown with my own work and that of the design work I do for my company; Bella + Frank. In complete contrast to the imagery I created for my degree, my brand Bella + Frank presents my ability to create branding and product design for a specific audience and consumer.
During my time at University of Brighton I have continued to run and design for my childrenswear label Bella + Frank. My work with Bella + Frank includes print and garment design, creative direction and art direction for our seasonal shoots, choosing locations, managing a team, production and sales. Running my own business alongside university has enabled me to be able to organise and diversify my time with focus and determination. I am extremely hard working and driven. I work well under pressure and thrive with a challenge.
Projects
- Creative Curiosity: TALES FROM THE PASTI designed a book investigating ghost stories from a first-hand perspective. From the narratives, I created collages that told the stories I had witnessed. Giving life back to the old images I featured and creating a new narrative for the people depicted in these photographs long ago, using the technique of collage, printmaking and photography.
- The Morbid Urge to GazeFinal Major Project for BA(Hons) Graphic Design: The Morbid Urge to Gaze A book expressively voyeuristic, takes the reader on a journey into voyeurism through an un-gendered gaze.
