  • I work on a freelance basis as a web and mobile sub-editor for The Independent. My main responsibility is working in a team to curate and produce the daily app edition. I also work closely with the features team to commission, edit and schedule online content. Responsibilities: - Editing, fact-checking, rewriting and proofreading content from multiple sections, including home and world news, voices, lifestyle, business, tech and culture, according to house style and with best practices in mind; - Exporting web-optimised copy from a bespoke CMS into the mobile publishing software and repurposing for digital UX, which includes writing print-style headlines, stand firsts, captions, kickers and pull quotes, and formatting interactive elements such as picture galleries, lists and graphs for a flat page layout; - Laying out pages and manipulating on-screen copy to ensure visual elements are styled and spaced correctly; - Curating and editing content for the weekly and monthly edition supplements, including Radar, New Review, Traveller and IndyEats; - Ensuring all content is not libellous, does not compromise media or copyright law, complies to ESI Media's policy and is published with best practices in mind; - Using SEO best practices to assign tags, categories and slugs, add hyperlinks, write headline urls, OGs and titles, incorporate target keywords and keywords niches and insert metadata; - Using a bespoke CMS to upload, edit, schedule and publish online content; - Liaising with writers to clarify facts or add revisions; - Adding lines to existing stories as they come in, adding last minute stories and updating live articles as events change; - Liaising with picture editors to request changes and suggest ideas.
