- In Utero, Hospital Club 10th Anniversary PartyIn Utero is a Latin term meaning 'in the womb'. In biology, the phrase describes the state of fetus, unborn children. Unless one has been blessed with super memory power, no-one remembers the pre-birth state, the feeling of being in the world's most intimate and comforting space possible: the womb. The Hospital Club is a Arts member club in Covent Garden, London. In Utero is part of Hospital Club’s 10th Anniversary celebration party. In response to the history of the building as a Maternity Hospital between the years 1749 to 1913, Cherrie's concept is to create a foetal, utopian retreat that replicates a mother’s womb. During the course of the event In Utero becomes a social platform for spectators to relax, feel enclosed, and suck wine from tubes: an intimate drinking experience inspired by umbilical cord. The installation is designed to inhabit 5 spectators at one time to preserve Intimacy. Research and design are focused on four senses: Touch, Sight, Taste and Hearing to recreate the experience of being in the womb and rebirth (without the mess!). © Cherrie Lau.
