My Artistic Practice revolves around my interest in intimacy and the relationships I have with people.
This interest stems from my own previous relationship traumas; therefore I crave intimacy. I am always searching for it, to then expound the positive relationships and the relationships I have with people close to me so as to obtain it. I want to do this by making these relationships and the emotions, comfort and familiarity integrated within, obvious to the viewer through visual outcomes.
Therefore, the process and act of making art, for me, is naturally therapeutic. I want to show the interactions that cannot be seen physically, visually in the artwork that I produce through the depiction of process; using factors like: colour, marks, texture etc, as I feel these beautiful and human exchanges are inherently overlooked and unfairly considered mundane.
I started looking at intimacy as a whole, which later refined to intimate relationships and now instead of intimacy, I show the adoration that I have for these people through the time and process that each dedication takes; a labor of love.
Can we really get a sense of the complete person?
The constant development of the individual along with the development of the relationship itself makes it almost impossible for one to really get a sense of the complete person.
Therefore, the artwork that I make, definitely takes influence from Greek dedications, like the ones found, made for the gods, in Greek ruins such as The Acropolis. It is a record of a person, at a point in time/memory that like historical dedications, may (or may not need to) have annotation of what was happening or what was felt at that time.
In addition, the naive and slap-dash nature of the artwork is somewhat prominent, to not only show how relationships are raw, honest and constantly developing; but also as an ode to the conditions of preservation and overall reconstructed aesthetic of actual Greek dedications/artifacts.
Furthermore, like historical dedications; the artwork should portray themes of admiration and everlastingness; showing that the relationships I have with these people, do not feel new, that there is a lot of history and so much more to be made.
Sustainability is also a huge thing for me and the majority of my artwork is made from scrap and recycled materials.
