About me
I specialise in workplace design, branding and strategic space planning. I have worked extensively overseas, undertaking projects across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South and South East Asia. My corporate clients include the British Council, DfID, the BDI, the Association for Consultancy and Engineering, ISS-Coflex, Unipath, Swiss Precision Diagnostics, Inverness Medical International, Alere, Concateno, MLS, Redpath, Hyder Consulting, HomeLet, the Barbon Group, Deacon Insurance, GeraldEve LLP, 12 Yard TV, Texel Finance ltd, the YMCA and Schlumberger. I also work on domestic projects, both for private clients and developers, including the Fitzroy Group and CJ O’Shea Co. Ltd. Prior to joining Amalgam in 1999, I spent nine years as Head of Architecture & Design at the British Council. I graduated from The Royal College of Art, MA (Architecture & Design).

    Hammerson Plc ~ Premium Washrooms Design GuidelinesThe Guidelines were designed both for 'internal use by Hammerson managers & design commissioners and commissioned Architects & Designers alike.
  • Texel Finance, London
    Texel Finance, LondonTexel Finance Limited appointed Ian Gunter and his team to plan and design the interior of their new 11,000 sq.ft. corporate headquarters in Bury Street London. The premises occupy a very sensitive site backing on to the courtyard of the Historic Grade 1 listed Bevis Marks Synagogue, (built in 1701, it is the oldest synagogue in Britain,) And in sharp contrast facing 30 St Mary Axe, known more commonly as ‘the Gherkin’, designed by Norman Foster & Arup Engineers, one of Londons’ newest iconic

HampsteadIan & Amalgam'ates Mark Mallindine & Mark Simpson, were commissioned by developers the Fitzroy group to design the interiors and landscaping for this new house in Hampstead. The house has 3 large reception rooms, an indoor swimming pool, sauna, gym, cinema, games rooms, library, 8 bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, a 4 car garage as well as staff accommodation.     Redwood ConsultingIan Gunter-Jones re-planned the layout of Redwood’s London office enabling them to accommodate their expanding team. Paul Gallagher developed their Brand ID by creating wall art for the new space. From the welcome area, to an informal meeting area, and the main office area, we designed typographic murals inspired by the company's brand values and refreshed visual identity, as well as a few pieces of office banter thrown in for good measure.

With no individual offices or allocated desks, the space revolves around a ‘treffpunkt’ — a central business lounge — and staff are free to choose where they work, according to their needs.

    British Council JerusalemIan Gunter was commissioned to help with the relocation of the British Council Centres in both East and West Jerusalem. He undertook space evaluation exercises and worked with security advisors as well as local property agents to evaluate various premises options. The West Jerusalem Centre contained an information centre, conference facility and administrative offices. The Centre was designed in collaboration with and implemented by K1P3 Architects. Tel Aviv.
