While at Mission gallery I assisted in a wide range of jobs in and around the space, contributing toward the various departments, allowing me to learn and understand the roles these key areas played in the running of a contemporary arts institution.
My main role consisted of invigilating the main space, where I would greet and provide further information to visitors about the current exhibition as well as the merchandising and sales of artwork in the ‘Craft Space’. Other daily tasks included stocktaking, fine art handling and supporting other departments in the preparation of spaces for workshops, events and discussions. During my time at the gallery I also had the opportunity of assisting in the delivery and set up of a new major exhibition by Justine Allison titled ‘Shifting Lines’. Throughout this time I assisted in the physical de-stall and install process as well as the ongoing liaison between the gallery and the artist to ensure the space was ready for the opening night. As part of this I was also paired with another photographer to take pictures of visitors interacting with the work and the artist that were then used on social media to promote the new exhibition.

Here I was able to build a foundation of skills and experiences, in practices I had never explored before. This course enabled to me to develop my visual and practical artworks, making them suitable and presentable for my portfolio.
