Graduating in 2013 with a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art from Kingston University, Iona Rowland has exhibited widely across London and the Midlands, with her debut solo show opening in October 2013 at Drapers Independent Fashion Retailer of the Year, Young Ideas. Her work is the subject of private collections in Europe, the USA and UAE. With features in British Vogue, Real Homes magazine and Grafik Jager, she is, in the words of Artsbeat editor Amanda Penman 'definitely one to watch'. Iona was the subject of Beyond Time TV's documentary 'Inspiring People' in 2015. When describing her work, she said 'my paintings draw on the symbiotic relationship between fashion and sex, exploring the 'un-reality' where excess becomes fashionable and fashion excessive. The surfaces of fashion are used as a means of seduction; they appear highly plasticised, saturated in gloss and permeated by sensuality and eroticism. To confront the binary of oppositions which pervades contemporary fashion advertising, I deconstruct, reconstruct and abstract these surfaces; turning commerce into critique, realism into revelation.
