Safeguarding objects in the exhibition, whilst interacting with visitors in the gallery.
Whilst volunteering here I helped with any administration work that was needed including filing, organising invoices and researching topics.
This involved everyday gallery tasks including learning how to frame artwork. But the main duties lay in curating the next exhibition for the gallery, organising everything from finding the artists to the opening night.
This internship involved working in the operations side of the gallery including working on the reception, filing, taking telephone calls, packaging artworks, organising deliveries, maintaining stock levels of supplies, researching topics, working on databases and spread sheets, using media to publicise exhibitions, organising advertising of the gallery in art publications, keeping the artworks in the correct environment and checking light levels in gallery and as well as other jobs.
I volunteered here as a room guide and developed good customer service skills as I was always meeting and greeting different types of people. I sometimes worked on the reception or at the children’s craft area which furthered these skills.
This involved manual work (eg. hanging and painting), press and publicity (press release, poster making, emails, social media, local press) and organising exhibition openings. May 2012- I organised an art show for the London artist Adam King. The preparation lasted a year, including everything from finding an artist to curating the space and organising the opening night. I also had to lead the team of volunteers who worked at the gallery.
