About me
My education in the Art world has been a lifelong process. From early childhood I have been engaged in the world of Asian art and antiquities through my fathers’ gallery; Kobi toys in lacquered wood and small metal sculptures, often in bronze or iron, were part of my toy box making their conservation and careful handling integral to my continued enjoyment of them. Early exposure to such a different visual culture, coupled with years spent visiting London’s many galleries, museums and other cultural institutions, provided a strong foundation for my academic study into the history of art. Studying at SOAS developed my understanding of the importance visual culture has to a people’s history and the responsibility institutions – and the individuals within them – have in protecting and promoting the knowledge and histories provided by cultural objects, artworks and artefacts. This education has greatly informed my physical interaction with art objects. I take pride and personal satisfaction in ensuring that an art object is delivered, installed or stored to the highest professional standard, knowing that its continued appreciation depends upon consistent application of best practice when handling the object in question. During my time with Halcyon gallery I have greatly developed the technical skills and professional conduct needed to work within the art industry’s many cultural and commercial spheres. I am comfortable operating within regional art institutions, official buildings, auction houses, galleries, Artist’s studios and private residences, continuously striving to provide a courteous and professional service regardless of the surrounding environment. This has been an excellent learning experience, however the opportunity to apply, develop and refine these skills in new and challenging environments remains a massively exciting prospect.
