As a freelance graphic designer, I am responsible for sourcing clients, managing my own time and delivering high quality outcomes to deadline. I also oversee the final stages of production, be it digital or print based, liaising with printers and web designers to supply artwork as required and ensure that deliverables are ready on time. I have a duty to manage my time as effectively as possible in order to juggle several briefs at once and maintain high standards. I handle my own finances, submitting invoices and ensuring that payment is received on time. I use any free time I have to learn new skills, such as web design, in order to broaden the already varied skillset I can offer, and to build my confidence and capabilities in order to approach new challenges and potential clients.

Throughout last summer, I was recruited in a freelance position by Impelling, a web design agency and IT consultancy based near Rotherham, who work primarily with schools, having identified a lack of IT support and creative, reliable website designs within education. Having met the project manager at an event, he was impressed by my drive and creativity, subsequently recommending me to the rest of the team. My responsibility was to assist with website wire framing, the production of banners and promotional materials for events and to come up with creative solutions to design problems, to engage more with their customers. I was paid for my work, but the experience was invaluable as it helped me develop my knowledge of web design. The team, being highly proficient at both back-end and front-end development, also helped train me to learn how to code. I began to become fluent in coding languages such as HTML, CSS & Javascript, and I was delighted to add this knowledge to my skillset for further applications in my own work, as well as work for my clients. Despite there being no further available work or potential for progression within the business, this experience established my enthusiasm for web design and coding, skills I have continued to improve upon since.
