I am a London based Music events professional. I have recently returned from travelling in South America, which was a long term ambition, and feel excited about continuing in my Career path full time. While I was in South America I organized and promoted a number of events in London, with the help of teams based in London, some of which took place while I was still away. Before I left I worked for 8 months as Head of Events at Proud Camden , a large music venue / nightclub in the stables market. I left the job on good terms. I also have several years experience as an independent and freelance promoter, label manager and bookings agent.
I am the Founder and Director of popular club event brand ‘THEM’. From 2008 I built the reputation of THEM from scratch. THEM is well-known in London Club music circles for forward thinking line ups and we have been positively covered and reviewed favourably by publications including but not limited to The Wire, Resident Advisor, DJ Mag, The Guardian, Mixmag, The Metro, Time Out. Many of the new artists debuting their sound or playing very early in their career have gone on to big things - THEM has showcased Little Dragon, SBTRKT, Crystal Fighters, Rustie, Rusko, 16Bit, Nosaj Thing, Slugabed, Tokimonsta, and many others early on. Through THEM I have taught myself the trade of successful modern distribution, marketing, publicity and getting the hype to the right punters. Essential to its success is a healthy working relationship with press, venues and bookings agencies.
In March 2014 I took over the head of promotions role at Proud Camden, a large nightclub situated in the stables market. My main goal at Proud is to drive attendance to the venue. I’m in charge of a team of three others comprising the promotions team. I manage my own workflow and that of those under me within the team. I am responsible for the quality of events at proud and their attendance, managing the event diary and its roster of promoters. My tasks are as follows: - Design and implement a range of promotion strategies to ensure good attendance. - Share strategy with external promoters for the benefit of both parties. - Oversee in house events from bookings, artwork design, press, social media, marketing. - Liaise with promoter and ops staff on matters of production and event management. - Create copy for press releases, promotional newsletters, event descriptions, listings etc. - Ensure promotional materials are in sufficient circulation and looking good. - Keep up to date with emerging promotional technologies and developments in social media, and the events promotion landscape to ensure my strategies stay relevant. - Regularly develop business communication skills through delivering weekly reports.
Was fully trained to be an agent for The Fat Agency, a Bass music live bookings company. During this time I honed my press release and promotional writing techniques and developed a personal database of clients. I used Wordpress web-hosting software and further developed html programming skills, and I suggested new artists for the roster. A small organisation, unfortunately TFA had suffered financial setbacks (it has since merged with a larger company) and decided they could no longer offer new roles to myself and one other new employee, but a reference is available.
I worked a Researcher / Copywriter role for a reputed business intelligence agency Matrix, which has provided the basis of my sense of professionalism in work. My job was to create concise and readable reports from a range of research materials, collecting and analysing data according to the needs of the client, drawing conclusions from a wide range of sources and presenting them to clients - all involving a high level of organisation. I edited and proofread the reports using skills honed in my degree to ensure the reports are concise, punchy and well written. My job also included an administrative and secretarial role within the office – I answered calls and emails, and to ensured the effective flow of information to the right people. This role required knowledge and use of multiple online proprietary databases, working daily in teams to rigid deadlines, regularly preparing briefings for clients three times daily. I left to pursue my intended path in the music industry.
