I am a Printed Textiles Designer from the North East of England, residing in London. In June 2017, I graduated from Loughborough University and obtained a BA (Hons) Degree in Textiles: Innovation and Design with 1st class honours. I completed a placement year between my second and third years at University, where I worked and gained experience within the creative industry. My placements included: Silken Favours, Amanda Kelly Design Studio and Whiston and Wright ltd. I specialised in Printed Textiles in my second year at university, and I am passionate about designing for interior textiles as well as fashion. This online portfolio showcases a range of my projects, including my final degree interior project, for which I was selected to exhibit at New Designers in 2017. Inspiration for many of my projects comes from historic artefacts and architecture. I’m particularly passionate about sculpture and classic artwork pieces and I regularly Frequent museums, including the British Museum, V & A, National Gallery, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Sir John Soanes Museum, Wallace Collection, Grant Museum, Royal Academy, Baltic Museum in Newcastle and MIMA in Middlesbrough, for first hand imagery and inspiration.
Supervising and overseeing first year students in workshops, completing individual academic tutorials with students and assisting with their design projects during studio hours. This position was for one day a week to work with the first year groups during their first semester at university.
Selected to exhibit final degree interior collection at Part 1 of New Designers, running from the 28th June to 1st July 2017. Received Romo 'loves' card, Hallmark 'gifted' card, and Wilkos/ ND W'Innovate Acknowledgement.
Responsible for pinning and steaming printed designs, cutting samples, taping/ hemming edges and sewing samples into mock garments. Also responsible for shipping designs, trend research, organising and storage of designs, and drawing/ designing when possible.
Primary role at Amanda Kelly was to draw patterns and motifs for the designers to use in their prints. Also responsible for organising prints in the show room, unpacking and organising shipped suitcases of designs, finding specific prints to fit customer briefs and sending e-mails, packing designs for sales meetings and for international sales/ design shows, organising storage of older designs, labelling, coding and photographing new prints, sourcing specific prints for clients and assisting on sales in and around London.
Helped with production, packing, label making, post office duties, researching, line drawing, dealing with manufacturing and factories, stock taking, and helped at pop up shops and press/buyer events.
