About me

Hello, my name is Jakub Stępień aka Hakobo (born 1976 Łódź, Poland) I am one of the 50 most important poster artists in the world (according to John Foster, author of the book New Masters of Poster Design: Poster Design for the Next Century). It also feels great in visual identification, activities on the borderline of art and design, in fashion and, in general, utility graphics. I works with many cultural institutions in the country, including from the Museum of Art in Łódź, the Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Poster Museum, Design Gallery BWA Wrocław, Zachęta National Art Gallery. Since 2001, I have been creating Hakobo Studio in which I work as an art director and graphic designer. Among my clients are: Andrzej Wajda, Netflix, Lodz Design Festival, Wyborowa, Vans Poland, Pogo Skateboarding, Universal Music Poland and others. I have been working at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź for five years and I teach at the Studio of Spatial Graphic Design and Poster, and in 2017 I received a PhD in the field of Fine Arts and Graphic Design.

  Common Good: WOur new Dizajn Gallery exhibition is looking for symptoms of vitality, locality and unselfishness in the commercialism-laden urban space of Wrocław. In short, we are looking for the common good. And its emblem – the surprisingly resilient, energetic letter W, an obligatory item in the register of Wrocław’s iconography which was, is, and will always be trendy – you’ll see. While cherishing the local nostalgia (or mythology) we will also check which of the symbols of Wrocław is close to your heart
• Seaside suvenirsAt stalls in holiday resorts, the infamous Huggy Waggy grins among shells, magnets, scarves, hats and towels. The same mass-produced seascapes create memories of holidays from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic Sea. Hakobo - a graphic designer from Łódź recognized as one of the fifty most important poster designers in the world - enters the souvenir niche (John Foster "New Masters of Poster Design: Poster Design for the Next Century").   ToleranceMODAPOLKA project - “Tolerance”, was developed in collaboration with HAKOBO. Like many of our joint projects it was an unplanned, spontaneous action. It is our contribution to the public debate on LGBT issues but also on tolerance in the broader sense.
