About me
Hej Most people ask us if we’re Swedish. Sadly we’re not, though we have many Swedish qualities. Difficult names for a start: Jaalá has never had her name spelled right on a coffee cup and Koen abandoned his name altogether for James. If not Swedish, at least we could have been siblings. Our similar looks are mostly down to Jaalá’s need for colour matching: a natural trait for an excellent art director. It follows that James is the copywriter, who now breaks his promise never to write about himself in third person. Together we’re a creative team in advertising and beyond. We like to get involved in a wide range of projects and do everything it takes to bring our concepts to life. We both work with cameras and pull our own production team together if we need to. So long as our ideas live. We didn’t come a usual way to advertising: Jaalá can call herself an architect and James graduated in Social Sciences. We love the unusual and draw inspiration from different places if we can. That wasn’t meant literally, but it’s a great bridge for our final fun fact: we moved a combined total of 26 times to places like NYC, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid and Oosterbeek. (Look that one up… ) We’re always down for a new collaboration or golden opportunity, so feel free to get in touch. Tack!

  • Mental Health - The Mix
Mental Health - The MixMental health is a “hot topic”, except amongst young people. We wanted to help youth charity The Mix to open up the conversation amongst teenagers, so we created a pro bono campaign to support them. We started work with virtually no production budget and pulled a passionate team together to make four films. We convinced media agencies to run our ads and they donated over 125k of ad space for television, cinema and online.
  • It's time to get real: Newsworks
It's time to get real: NewsworksNewsworks is the marketing body of UK newspapers. Concerned with the spread of #fakenews, they asked us to defend the reputation of established publishers. We decided that attack was the best defence, and compared superficial social media responses with the impact of real news. No emoticon can ever tell a story like a trusted publisher. The prints were published as double page ads in all major UK news papers, as well as in tube and OOH locations.
  • The future is female: Eurosports
The future is female: EurosportsEurosport realised the advertising on their channels was very male dominated and needed to change. We wanted to inspire their b2b contacts to use stronger female narratives and created a video with footage from their own ads to show women are changing the game.
  • Adidas Conviction: Adidas
Adidas Conviction: AdidasInmates aren’t often admired, except for their great shape. In fact, over 60% of all inmates in the UK get a PT qualification, but only 1% use their qualification when they leave prison. In this spec idea we consider what could happen if Adidas would help the best inmates to reintegrate in society. It’s a second chance for inmates and a first-class training for fitness junkies.
  • A Valentine's mix up: Sainsbury's
A Valentine's mix up: Sainsbury'sOn Valentine’s Day we focused on the one who’s always by your side: your dog. It pulled heartstrings and became Sainsbury's most popular video of the year.
  • Craft: Photography/filmmaking/design
Craft: Photography/filmmaking/designStyle and beauty are at the forefront of pop culture, and simply great fun. We regularly collaborate with small brands and individuals to to bring out their personality in photo and video. We like to be hands-on, so we produce, shoot and edit these projects ourselves.

The space in which Art Director meets Film Director fascinates me. It inspired me last year to do a foundation degree in film, so that I can carry my projects from scribbles to screen.
